LIFE TRANSITIONS

Even with the best planning, life transitions are stressful.

Frequently, sexual interest and frequency declines as change disrupts a couple’s ‘normal sex life’. However, change also provides the opportunity for sexual growth and deeper intimacy in the relationship. For each major life event, a couple’s sex life must progress from disrupted to reconstructed.

Following these changes, her body often experiences sex differently….sensation changes, pain/dryness with sex, mood/hormonal changes and body image issues can all contribute to trouble with sex after baby. Additionally, if a woman experienced a significantly painful delivery or recovery, she may avoid sex due to fear of pain.

Both women and men often struggle to regain their sexual selves while adjusting to their new life and balancing their energy between kids, partner, and self. Sex therapy can help a couple reconnect and renew their sexual energy together.

Midlife / Menopause

Every woman experiences the menopausal transition in her own unique way.

Some of the most common symptoms include night sweats, disrupted sleep, and increased anxiety. Sex is often drier and less comfortable than it used to be. Physical symptoms can be managed with medications and/or supplements, but the process is an adjustment that spans several years. Women and their partners may be unprepared and rather confused when her body and sexual responses change. Sex therapy can help by clarifying what is happening, managing expectations, and planning for adjustments to sex lives that allow both partners to enjoy this liberating life chapter.
